New Tri-lingual Channel By SLBC
The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) turning a new chapter in the country's broadcasting history commenced a new radio channel Time Radio on 87.6 MHz at the SLBC yesterday.
While giving prominence to sports, the new channel would also air current affairs and entertainment programmes in all three languages complying with the trilingual policy of the government.
UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa officially launching Time Radio? observed that it would help bring talented young sportsmen and women to cities and to international levels.
He observed that village level sportsmen should be provided with necessary assistance to come forward adding that the sports sector should be devoid of political intrusions. He expressed his best wishes to the SLBC to carry forward its services preserving its identity.
Mass Media Information Ministry Secretary W B Ganegala observed that the SLBC has always been cautious on airing programmes to suit Sri Lankan identity, social ethics and culture and has gained the public credibility.He also noted that it has been well aware of the target groups of its programmes.
SLBC Chairman Hudson Samarasinghe, Coordinating Secretary to the President Kumarasiri Hettige and Private Secretary to Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Brigadier J P Jayewardena also spoke.
ANCL Editorial Director Seelarathna Senerath appreciated the initiation of trilingual policy from Time Radio and City FM channels of the SLBC network.
